Since its inception, Summit has invested more than $1.5 billion in distressed debt acquisitions, balance sheet restructures of operating companies, special situation capital, bridge loans and joint ventures.
Typical investments range between $1 million and $75 million with the flexibility to do larger transactions. Summit’s existing portfolio includes commercial & industrial loans, asset-based loans and cash flow credits, along with a diverse commercial real estate portfolio consisting of hospitality, industrial, multi-family, c-store, retail, warehouse, office, self-storage, golf course, environmentally challenged property, and other esoteric asset classes.

Charles J. (CJ) Burger is a Founding Member and the President & Chief Executive Officer of Summit. He is responsible for overseeing the business development team. Prior to Summit’s inception, CJ was the Managing Director of the Special Assets Group at Republic Financial Corporation. CJ began his career as a Staff Accountant with Coopers & Lybrand in New York before taking a role as a Senior Vice President with Fleet Bank in Rhode Island. CJ holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from New York University and is a past board member of the Colorado Turnaround Management Association (TMA).
Steve Petrie is a Founding Member and the Chief Operating Officer of Summit. At Summit, Steve is responsible for managing the asset management, loan operations and accounting functions of the firm. Prior to Summit’s inception, Steve was the Managing Director of Asset Management at Republic Financial Corporation. Prior to Republic, he was with Ocwen Financial Corporation, Wilshire Financial Corporation, Univest Financial Corporation and Bank One Texas, NA. Steve holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Texas at Arlington and is a Certified Public Accountant. Steve is also a 12-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Robert Milam joined Summit in 2018. His responsibilities include business development, deal sourcing and underwriting. Robert served most recently in a deal sourcing role for Bayside/HIG Capital. Prior to that he held various leadership roles in the Special Assets Departments at TD Bank, Regions Bank and SouthTrust Bank. Robert holds a bachelors degree in finance and a MBA from the University of Alabama. Robert is an active member of the Turnaround Management Association.
Jonathan Bloom joined Summit in January 2018. His responsibilities include business development and marketing, deal sourcing and underwriting. Jonathan has had various roles in the restructuring and asset monetization space during the last 16 years that spans organizations such as: The Huntington Bank, Loeb Equipment and Appraisal and The Hilco Organization. Jonathan holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing and management from Indiana University and is an active member of the Turnaround Management Association, Commercial Finance Association and the American Bankruptcy Institute.
Benjiman Godbout joined Summit in 2018 as a Managing Director of Special Situations and is based in New York City. His role includes business development, deal sourcing, underwriting, and asset management.
Benjiman has provided financial and operational restructuring advisory services for more than 10 years. Prior to joining Summit, he served as Director of Investment Banking and Advisory at Carl Marks Advisors in New York City. There, Benjiman completed several high-profile restructuring deals including Joe’s Jeans and Universal Trailer Corp. He has also held positions at Deloitte and Capstone Advisory Group in Los Angeles, where he worked on the American Airlines and Chrysler restructurings. Currently, Benjiman serves as a board observer at Steven Feller PE, LLC, an engineering company based in Florida. He earned his BA from the University of Western Ontario, and an MBA from Cornell University’s Johnson Graduate School of Management. Additionally, Benjiman holds FINRA Series 79 and 63 licenses.
Jennifer Meyerowitz joined Summit in 2018 as Managing Director of Business Development. Her responsibilities include business development, deal sourcing, marketing and underwriting. Jennifer’s experience in bankruptcy, restructuring and advisory services spans almost 20 years and she has served as an attorney, consultant and company leader in the industry.
Prior to joining Summit, Jennifer led the bankruptcy and restructuring group at Garden City Group, managing both the sales and operations teams. Throughout her career, Jennifer served in operations, business development, and other leadership roles, including serving as vice president of various legal technology companies. Jennifer began her career as a practicing attorney at Alston & Bird LLP where she represented debtors, secured and unsecured creditors, creditors’ committees, banks and trustees in complex workouts, debt restructurings, commercial litigation and chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings.
Jennifer earned her J.D. from Emory University and her B.A. from the University of Michigan. She is active in several industry organizations, including the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Turnaround Management Association (TMA) and the Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Advisors (AIRA). She currently serves on the Boards of AIRA and TMA and she is a former chair of the International Women’s Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation and former chair and co-founder of its Georgia network.
